The outside size of the finished case. Acrylic thickness, the base, lid and access construction and the panel layout all take up room inside, so the internal usable size is smaller. We show it beside the price once the live price confirms this configuration.

Getting the size right

Measure the space your item needs

  • Finished external size is the outside of the case. Choose Outside to enter this size.
  • Internal usable size is smaller: acrylic thickness, the base, lid and access construction and the panel layout all take up room. Choose Inside to enter this size and we size the panels up to suit. The configurator shows both beside the price once the live price confirms your configuration.
  • Access: the standard case is open at the front. You can open a different side or the top, add a hinged door, or choose a sealed case.
  • Delivery & pickup are quoted for the case on screen; your cart re-quotes the whole order.
Common Questions

Display Case FAQs

What acrylic thickness should I choose for my display case?
As a general guide, 3mm suits small cases, while larger cases or heavier items benefit from thicker panels (6mm and up) that resist bowing. The configurator offers every thickness we stock for display cases from 3mm up to 25mm; not every colour comes in every thickness, and very large panels need thicker acrylic. If you're unsure, contact our team with your sizes before ordering.
Are the dimensions I specify internal or external?
Either — you choose in the configurator. Pick Outside (external) and the dimensions you enter are the finished external size: the outside of the case. The internal usable space is then smaller, because the acrylic thickness, the base, lid and access construction and the panel layout all take up room inside. Pick Inside (internal) and the dimensions you enter are the clear usable space: we size every panel up by the acrylic thickness, so the outside of the case is larger. Once the live price confirms your configuration, the configurator shows both sizes beside the price, and your cart and checkout state both.
Can I have one or more sides left open?
The standard case is open at the front so it can be placed over your item. In the configurator you can choose which single side (or the top) is open, add a hinged door with an optional keyed lock, or choose a fully sealed case with no access. Anything else, such as a removable lid or lift-off cover, sliding panels or several open sides, is quoted by hand: contact our team with your sizes.
Do you include a base with the display case?
Yes. The display case build includes an acrylic base panel, and you can choose a different colour or thickness for it under Finishing. The plinth build lets you choose an enclosed or open base.
How are the panels joined?
Panels are solvent-bonded. A hinged door is not bonded; it is fitted with hinges (and a keyed cam lock if you choose one).
What is the maximum size you can make?
The configurator accepts dimensions from 50mm to 1800mm on each side. Each panel must still be cut from one standard sheet, so a very large case (for example 1800mm on two sides of the same panel) or a thin panel on a long span is quoted by hand; the configurator tells you when that applies. Large cases are usually delivered on a pallet or quoted for freight separately.
What colours are available?
The configurator offers every acrylic colour we can price and fabricate for a display case, including clear, opals, whites, blacks, tints and solid colours, and shows the thicknesses each one comes in. Mirror, patterned and special-order acrylics are quoted by hand: contact our team.
When will my case be ready?
We don't publish a fixed lead time for custom cases. If you have a deadline, contact our team before ordering and we'll tell you whether we can meet it.

Need something the configurator doesn't offer?

Removable lids, sliding panels, mirror or special-order acrylics and oversize panels are quoted by hand. Send us your sizes and what the case is for.
