Acrylic Privacy Screens

A solid fence panel buys privacy by taking the daylight with it. A frosted or tinted plastic screen does the opposite: it diffuses the view while the light still comes through, which is why they suit balconies, light wells, courtyards and pool surrounds where a timber or colorbond infill would make the space gloomy.

Frosted, tinted or coloured

• Frosted acrylic diffuses shapes and is the usual choice where you want obscurity but not darkness.
• Tinted acrylic cuts glare as well as sightlines, and reads as a deliberate design element rather than a screen.
• Coloured or opal acrylic is fully opaque where a boundary needs to be a boundary.
• Polycarbonate where the screen is somewhere it could be hit — it is far more impact-resistant than acrylic, at the cost of scratching more easily outdoors unless it is a hard-coated grade.

Fixing it up

Screens are usually fixed through the panel or captured in a channel. Tell us which, and we will cut the holes with the panel — sized and positioned for the fixing you are using, with the edge distance a plastic panel needs so it does not craze around the fastener.

Plastics expand and contract with temperature more than metal or timber does. On an outdoor screen the fixing holes need clearance so the panel can move; if you tell us the fixing centres, we will allow for it rather than leaving you to find out in February.

Radiused corners and shaped tops

Screens rarely want a sharp 90° corner at eye height. We can radius the corners or cut a curved top profile on the router — send the shape as a sketch or a DXF and we will quote the finished panel rather than a rectangle you have to cut down.

Plastic Online is the online counter of Holland Plastics, a Gold Coast fabrication workshop. CNC routing, laser cutting, vacuum forming and plastic welding all happen on one floor, so the person cutting your part can read what you wrote rather than a summary of it.

We cut to ±0.1 mm. Tell us which dimensions are critical — and whether the tolerance has to hold across a stack of parts — and we will confirm that against your drawing at quote stage. A sawn panel, a routed profile and a laser-cut edge come off three different machines, so naming the critical dimension is worth more than assuming it.

Finished parts ship Australia-wide from the capital-city depot nearest you, not always from Queensland. There is no minimum order: one panel is a job.
