Frequently Asked Questions

What is nylon sheet?
Nylon sheet is an engineering plastic known for high strength, stiffness, and excellent wear resistance. It’s commonly used for industrial parts that need durability and low friction.
What is nylon sheet used for?
Typical applications include gears, wear pads, bushings, rollers, bearings, conveyor components, machine parts, and high-load structural components.
Is nylon sheet stronger than acrylic or polycarbonate?
Yes. Nylon is far tougher and more impact-resistant than acrylic. Polycarbonate is more impact-resistant than nylon, but nylon has better wear resistance and mechanical strength for moving parts.
Is nylon sheet food-safe?
Some grades are FDA-approved. Not all. If it needs to be used for food contact, you must specify food-grade nylon.
Can nylon sheet be machined?

Yes. It machines extremely well and is ideal for CNC routing, turning, milling, drilling, and shaping.

Can nylon be welded?

Yes, but nylon welding is more difficult than HDPE or polypropylene. It’s typically better to machine nylon parts from solid.

Is nylon sheet UV-resistant?
No. Standard nylon breaks down with UV exposure. If it’s going outdoors, you need UV-stabilised grades or a different material.
How does nylon handle heat?
Nylon has a high melting point (~220°C) and can handle continuous operating temperatures around 80–100°C depending on grade.
