Description

Acetal Rod, also known as Polyoxymethylene (POM-C), is a high-performance engineering plastic that offers excellent impact resistance, dimensional stability, and high mechanical strength. Known for its natural lubricity, outstanding surface hardness, and low friction properties, Acetal is ideal for precision parts that require durability and wear resistance. It has high dielectric strength, is resistant to many solvents, and exhibits very low moisture absorption, ensuring stable performance even in wet environments. Acetal operates effectively within a wide temperature range of -45°C to +100°C, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications.

We offer Acetal Rods cut to your custom size to meet the exact specifications of your project.

Key Applications of Acetal Rods:

Bearings and Bushings: Provides low friction, high wear resistance, and smooth operation.
Gears: Maintains dimensional stability under load with excellent mechanical strength.
Wear-Resistant Components: Ideal for sliders, rollers, and guide rails in high-friction environments.
Food Industry Applications: Used in food processing equipment (Note: Not all Acetal grades are FDA-approved).
High-Temperature Water Applications: Copolymer grades are recommended for their superior hot water resistance.

Polymer Types:

Homopolymer: Delrin® – Offers higher strength, stiffness, and slightly better wear properties.
Copolymer: Celcon® / Hostaform® – Provides better chemical resistance, lower centerline porosity, and improved performance in hot water applications.
Standard Colours:
White
Black (UV Stabilised): Enhanced UV resistance for outdoor applications.

Specialty Grades:

C.L. (Chemically Lubricated): Provides self-lubricating properties for reduced friction without additional lubrication.
A.F. (PTFE/Teflon® Filled): Enhanced wear resistance and reduced friction, ideal for demanding applications.
G.F. (Glass-Filled – up to 30%): Increased stiffness, strength, and dimensional stability for high-load applications.
E.L. (Electrically Conductive): Suitable for applications requiring static dissipation or EMI shielding.
S.D. (Static Dissipative): Controls static electricity build-up, ideal for sensitive electronic environments.

Custom Options:

Cut to Size: Available in custom lengths and diameters to meet your exact requirements.
Custom-Coloured Rods: Available upon request for specific applications or aesthetic preferences.

We make buying cut to size acetal rod easy and convenient

You may know acetal rod by its commonly known trade names Delrin and Ertacetal. Among other properties, acetal rod has high impact resistance, high mechanical strength, resistant to most solvents, good electrical properties, low water absorption, and excellent dimensional stability.

Typical applications are for use in precision gears, snap fit assemblies, electrical engineering insulators, and components that are required to work in water with a temperature range between 60 and 90 degrees centigrade.

Order acetal rod online and we’ll cut to order. Purchase for commercial use, industrial use, or direct to consumer applications.

Spoke to someone named Kip or kit this morning she was very rude and blunt,
We have an urgent requirement for Teflon sheet and she scoffed at me when I said we needed it urgently, and just said we are too busy to do that.
Very unprofessional
When owners holland plastic read this comment just be aware our order would have been in excess of $20k
we were happy to pay extra in overtime rates or overnight freight.
I would hate to have this person completing sales for my company especially when we have quite a large order needing sorted

Thank you for you terrible service we shall order from an interstate company from now on 👎🏻

Frequently Asked Questions

What are acetal rods used for?

Acetal rods are commonly used for machining mechanical parts that require high strength, low friction, and tight dimensional stability. Typical applications include gears, bushings, pulleys, rollers, wear strips, and precision components.

Is acetal easy to machine?

Yes. Acetal is one of the easiest engineering plastics to machine. It cuts cleanly, holds tolerances well, and produces a smooth finish on CNC lathes and mills. It behaves similarly to high-quality hardwood when cutting.

What’s the difference between acetal and Delrin?

“Acetal” (POM) is the generic material name. “Delrin” is DuPont’s brand name for acetal homopolymer. Delrin offers slightly higher strength and stiffness, while generic acetal copolymer offers better hot-water and chemical resistance.

How strong is acetal compared to other plastics?

Acetal is significantly stronger and more rigid than HDPE or UHMW. It has high tensile strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and maintains its shape under load. This makes it suitable for high-precision, high-wear mechanical parts.

Is acetal food-grade?

Most acetal copolymer grades are food-safe and compliant with FDA/EFSA requirements. They are used in food machinery components because they resist moisture, do not absorb odours, and maintain stability under repeated cleaning.
